Professor Hussein FICCON, MCSN, MSETAC (USA) is a Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry in the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Ilorin. He has served in various positions, including Head of Department: Department of Industrial Chemistry, UNILORIN, Deputy Director (Training) at the Centre for Research, Development and In-House Training University of Ilorin, Deputy Editor In-Chief for Ilorin Journal of Science, Editor In-Chief for the Editorial Board of U6 consortium conference proceedings, CapeTown, South Africa, 2024. Secretary-General Chemical: Society of Nigeria, Kwara Chapter, Member of the University of Ilorin Apiary Board Management (APM), Research Assistant in the Department of Chemistry from 2010 to 2012 in the Cape Peninsula University of Technology CPUT, Cape Town, South Africa. Representative of the Faculty of Physical Sciences at the Junior Staff Appointment and Promotion Committee (2021-till date). The Data Manager and Contact person to Time Higher Education (THE) for the ranking of university of Ilorin between 2021-2023. Prof. Okoro is currently a visiting Research Scholar to the Department of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
He is passionate and has a keen interest in teaching, community services, and research focusing on Environmental monitoring & Bio Monitoring of pollutants, Development of analytical methods, Remediation of pollutants from environment ; Membrane Nanotechnology Research; Risk Assessments of Environmental Data’s and Environmental Toxicology with over 15 years of cognate experience.
This renowned scholar has published over 90 journal articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He has received numerous and credible awards
Professor Okoro (B.Sc, M.Sc (Hons) Ind.Chem; Cert in Computer (Data Proc); PGDE (Ilorin); PhD in Chem (CPUT, CPT SA); PPhD , JBorg SA). has taught several courses, supervised /still supervising at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has attracted many research and travel grants cum scholarships and has been recognized as one of the top-rated 37 UNILORIN Academics on Scopus Data Base with an H-index of 14 or more. He is a member of several professional councils, including the Fellow Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria (FICCON) Member Chemical Society of Nigeria (MCSN) and Member Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, North America Version (MSETAC, USA). Prof HK Okoro has presented at six international conferences (in Kenya, Nigeria, Boston and California, USA, Ghana and Dakar, Senegal, South Africa) and currently serving as External Examiner within and outside Nigeria.
